The mystery of sharks

Sharks live almost in all regions of the oceans and seas even in the regions that are not rather favourable for life. And sometimes they even live in lakes and rivers. And they are able to adapt to the environment quickly and easily without any difficulties and in such way they have the possibility to inhabit almost all territory of the great ocean.

Sharks have rather good sense of smell. The front part of the brain responsible for the sense of smelling is developed more than the sense of smelling of other fishes and even people. Blind sharks get to the place where the pieces of fish were put into the water with any difficulties. There were also some theories that sharks have also the possibility to distinguish smells in the air. But such theories were not proven.

And did you know that sharks can drown? Yes, the scientists say that it is really possible. The shark always moves with the opened mouth constantly getting the fresh water and then releasing it through the branchial cavity. That is why it is not able to get through the branchial cavity the necessary volume of the needed water for the normal breathing. This makes the shark move constantly no matter it is day or night. But thanks to such breathing, the shark receives the intensive water circulation that washes the branchial cavity allowing breathing. The shark can have a rest not more than an hour or else it will suffocate.

Sharks are interesting creatures that demand a lot of investigations and researches.
