The shark's reproduction

Everything in the world needs special forms of reproduction to survive in the world and to keep the activity of special species. The problem of dinosaurs was that the born generation couldn't substitute all dead generation that was much more numerous. In the result, dinosaurs died out.

Shark as all cartilaginous fishes has the internal fecundation. There are male sharks and female sharks. But the fertility of sharks is not rather big but their eggs have a lot of nutrients.

All female sharks can be divided into three categories. And these categories are the next: egg-laying, ovoviviparous and viviparous.

The majority of the modern sharks are ovoviviparous. Some female sharks even have the larva that eats the non fecundated eggs produced by the female sharks constantly.

The majority of fishes shed eggs and later they are fecundated by the male fishes. But sharks even have something like sex.

It is interesting to know that dolphins that are far relatives of sharks also have sex. Moreover dolphins are the only animals of Earth besides people that have sex for pleasure and not only for reproduction.

As you see the world of underwater inhabitants is not so uninteresting and poor and keeps so many interesting facts.
